Hannah Straney (she/her) is a New York native who works as a freelance dancer, filmmaker, and arts programmer. She got her BFA in Dance Performance from SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Dance and also trained at TNUA in Taipei, Taiwan. While in school, she had the chance to perform works by artists like Shannon Gillen, Sidra Bell, Tom Weinberger, George Balanchine, Azure Barton, Larry Keigwin, and more. After graduating, Hannah toured across the U.S. with Dirty Dancing and then spent four years performing with Company XIV as a singer, dancer, and actor. She was also the associate choreographer for the immersive NYC show The Stranger, where she worked closely with Tislarm Bouie and originated one of the roles. Hannah often collaborates with the Merce Cunningham Trust and recently performed in a restaging of XOVER at the Baryshnikov Arts Center. She’s also been a swing in Life and Trust with Emursive and is currently dancing with Skyla Schreter Dance, Kimberly Bartosik, Liz Gerring, and Cornfield Dance. Right now, she’s on tour with David Byrne for the “Who is the Sky?” World Tour.
